Museums and Historic Sites

We love our museums, large and small.  Historic sites wrestle with our challenging history. Art museums engage the public with a variety of exhibits. And our science and children's museums both educate and engage younger visitors.

A few museums not to be missed:

  • Maggie L. Walker National Historic Site (free)

  • Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (free, except for special exhibits)

  • Black History Museum

  • Children's Museum

  • Science Museum

  • Branch Museum of Architecture

  • Agecroft Hall

  • John Marshall House

  • Virginia Museum of History and Culture

  • Richmond National Battlefield Sites (Civil War)

Recreational opportunities

Urban biking and hiking trails, splash pads, playgrounds, and more.

If you like being active, you'll love it here!  We have parks where you can bike, walk, and even climb. We have several climbing gyms, and many options for gym memberships.  You'll find running, walking, climbing, and biking clubs, as well as sports teams for folks of all ages.
